NERO – Advanced Cybersecurity Awareness Ecosystem for SMEs

NERO
advaNced cybErsecurity awaReness ecOsystem for SMEs

The European project NERO is an advanced Cybersecurity Ecosystem provisioned to offer a Cybersecurity Awareness program and to best educate and develop a security-first culture amongst SMEs employees on how to mitigate the impact of cyber threats and incorporate activities, resources, and training to foster a cyber security culture.

NERO focuses on the following challenges:

  1. Cyber Threats & Disruptions: Nero tackles the increasing number and sophistication of cyber threats, addressing the potential harm to both individuals and organisations.
  2. AI-Enabled Threats: NERO addresses the rise of AI-enabled disinformation and threats, such as malware, social engineering, data theft and supply chain.
  3. SME Vulnerability: NERO recognises the vulnarability of SMEs to cybercrime, aiming to bridge the awareness gap by providing tailored cybersecurity solutions.
  4. Importance for SMEs: Considering SMEs as the backbone of the European economy, NERO acknowledges the challenges they face and aims to enhance their cybersecurity resilience.

The overall objective of NERO is to promote the adoption and the dissemination of innovative cybersecurity solutions (particularly within SMEs, and via the results of research financed by European public funds), and to improve knowledge and cybersecurity audits.

Two main actions will be implemented:

  1. Design a cybersecurity awareness program focused on SMEs to fight cybercrime by providing a repository of cyber immunity toolkits; a support program on cyber resilience and training for cybersecurity awareness via gamification, all via a marketplace.
  2. Demonstrate the benefits of NERO through 3 use cases in the health, finance, transport and logistics sectors.

In this project, SCS is particularly involved in the following activities:

  1. Contribution to market analysis and to the definition of use cases
  2. Contribution to the technology assessment of cybersecurity tools
  3. Dissemination of the training offer and use cases to SMEs
  4. Clustering with other entities
