EFfIcient future and nEw Generation vIdeo coding


Project EFIGI (Efficient future and nEw video Generation coding) fits in the market of the diffusion of video contents which are currently in full change: the diffusion and the use of video contents moved dedicated networks Broadcast (TNT, Satellite) worms of the networks general practitioners of the Broadband type (IP, 3GPP, PMR), and the wealth and the diversity of the contents also evolved (UHD/HDR/HFR/360°). Moreover end-users resort more and more to the mobile platforms (shelf, telephone,…) to look at video streams and the autonomy of the systems embarked is consequently today under pressure.
Thus the committees of standardization ISO/IEC MPEG and ITU-T VCEG will start new an activity of standardisation (Future Video Coding) in order to answer these new requirements, and to define a new standard of compression so as to be synchronized in 2020 with the new standard of mobile telephony, future the 5G. While following this same calendar, the main aim of the video service providers and terminals is to offer a set of products compatible with this new standard (Time to market).
The markets concerned are that of the video diffusion (broadcast/broadband) in particular on mobiles (4G/5G), of event-driven, and the security (PMR and Video protection).
