NEMS gauge-sensing microphone.

The project aims at the realization of a microphone sensor M & NEMS (microphone of very small dimension), based on an innovating concept (patent LETI) and a technology of the advanced microelectronic type using nanowires of silicon and aimed at two markets: – that of the auditory implants (specifications very demanding in terms of dynamic range, consumption and bandwidth) – that of consumer electronics products (mobile phone, PDA, MP3 player, notebook …) for which we are aiming for a very low consumption product and very compact (reduction Cost). This study uses design skills that mix mechanics and acoustics (brought by LETI and LVA). This MEMS structure with nanowire detection will be coupled with a very low consumption electronics, area of which the IM2NP is specialist. The project also includes an SME, NEURELEC, a specialist in cochlear implants, which will bring the application vision and will be strongly involved in the specifications, the signal processing and the evaluation of the final demonstrator. The project is also strongly supported by a founder, Tronics, who does not intervene in the project but will be consulted as part of the product enhancement found in his roadmap. Through the realization of innovative microphones demonstrators, this ambitious project will aim at demonstrating the feasibility and the interest of the use of NEMS for high volume and medical applications, with a strong added value by the co-integration of microphones and inertial sensors, which will be to our knowledge a world first.
